Meditation is done to help calm your mind to be able to focus better. However, there are times when you are really bothered with something that calming your mind becomes difficult. A way of getting around it is by using incense in Meditation.
The use of incense in Meditation has been done for centuries by monks and priests. In a Meditation session, the use of incense helps you to have a calm mind by creating an atmosphere of tranquility through the scent that the incense gives off.
While you are given the impression to burn incense during a Meditation session, it is better to burn it and let the scent spread across the room before meditating. In that way, you are not distracted by the smoke especially you are sensitive to it.
But if you go on a long period of Meditation, it is of course more practical to burn incense while doing the activity. However, make sure that the room is well-ventilated to prevent breathing problems.
There are different materials used in making incense; each of which gives off a particular scent. While there are certain recommendations on what type of incense to use while meditating, it really depends on you. Use any incense that you think will help you calm your mind during the course of the practice. There isn’t a particular one that can be recommended as the best incense to burn.
Since the choice of incense depends on you, it would be good to scour the market for different types of scents so that you can decide which one you think is good for you. Some stores have samplers which contain the incense that they are selling. In general, try several kinds of incense and then buy what suits your preferences.
